Just been catching up on shows I've taped, watched Broken News, Spicks and Specks and the first episode of the new Ricky Gervais show, Extras.

Sadly I shall just have to declare myself one of the few who do not "get" Ricky Gervais, I detested The Office, I found his character in that, David Brent supremely unlikable, and yes I realise he was supposed to be, but he was supposed to be funny as well, and to my mind, The Office just wasnt, and I have to report the same about Extras, I wanted to like this, everyone has raved about it, said how funny it was, and I was willing ready and able to give Ricky Gervais (Andy Millman) the benefit of the doubt. It was funny in patches, and thats about it, its not a patch on the show it replaced Absolute Power with the incomparable Stephen Fry.

I guess I just dont 'get' Ricky Gervais and his style of humour.

Mmmm, yes, both seasons of the deliciously wicked Stephen Fry.. I adore that show and the man.. He needs to do more Absolute Power.

I agree, Absolute Power is so much funnier. And the episode I saw of "Extras" had Ben Stiller..? Which is a strike against it from the start, I don't find him funny at ALL :/

I haven't seen Extras but I liked The Office. I think it's just really, really British humour. The kind of humour that's only funny because if you didn't laugh you'd cry or kill yourself. It's basically only funny because it's so incredibly sad how true it is of office life.

yeah, I was even willing to overlook that, Ben stiller sets my teeth on edge, but I just couldn't find the humour in the show.

that could be it, I havent actually ever worked in an office situation, so I just didnt get the humour.. Mind you, I also didn't ever find Little Britain funny either.

I found some of Little Britain funny, the first few times I saw it. But it's the same thing over and over every episode so I got bored really quick.

Quality British comedy is reserved by Channel 4 rather than the BBC, IMHO. Spaced, Peep Show, Black Books are all excellent, especially the first two. Although BBC3 can be good sometimes, I do like Smoking Room and Two Pints of Lager...
