maine coons are adorable - Mum got two about 10 years ago, and one of them was the most shameless people-adoring cat i've ever seen! (with a purr that sounded like a train engine :) )

Oh those are adorable cats. Here just about anywhere in america you can adopt a kitten for free, the only expense is food (about a dollar a day) and cat litterbox.

Id have one, but with my going out of town all the time, not beliving in declawing of cats, and ownership of leather couches.. I kindof have to rule it out for the time being. Loooove those maine coons.

Maine Coons are easy to come by for cheap around where I am.. although they aren't pure bred. Pure breds are easy $200-$400..!

I think they were named coons because they were a) either racoon coloured or b) racoon sized.

Not a lot in Australia, there are several catteries and breeders, but they all space their litters, which is why the average kitty, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and socialised costs between $500-$800
