a moving story
Jul. 13th, 2007 10:21 pmThe night before we were due to move I went to bed early and managed to get about two hours sleep on and off, the alarm went off at 7am, I got up, got the last bits and pieces ready and waited for the removalists to arrive, just before they turned up we put the cats into the carriers, and boy did they HATE that. The removalists arrived at 8:15 and immediately went to work, they started on the lounge/kitchen, then the bedrooms and then onto the boxes, of which there was about twentyfive. The cats and I moved into the emptied loungeroom as the removalists finished the packing up and they left the old place at around 10.30.
My friend Paul and my youngest Dhanica went in car we borrowed from Dad along with the important stuff like our laptops, the dvd player, the computer, the really important stuff, you know, and he supervised the unloading, Paul came back for me and the cats at around 12ish, we were all inside the new house just after 1am, we let the cats out and they immediately hid in the spare room behind all the boxes, it took until the evening until we even saw them, and they didn't eat anything or use the kitty litter until the next day.
I have bruises all over, fucked knees, sore bits, and now i have clingy cats, especially Callista who meows every time I so much as leave her sight, if i go outside to the loo she sits at the screen door and mews pitifully until I come back, but we're all moved in, and I love my new house. Suprisingly I didn't even feel a twinge as we pulled out of the driveway of the old place, I had thought I might feel a little sad, but nothing, my only regret was that we had to leave my laundry door behind, the door that
rickybuchanan and I painted so long ago.
But it's time to move on, Dhanica loves her room out back, the cats will get used to it, I had a wood fire tonight and it was magical, it's raining right now and I'm snug and cosy in bed listening to the rain and it's all good.
A big big BIG wrap must go to the Chris Bell Removalists who did a sterling job on the move, on such short notice, they were nothing short of amazing, quick, cheap, professional, efficient, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who wants to move around Tasmania, or move to Tasmania from the mainland.
