I was having a chat on the phone yesterday to a very wonderful person, now this person has a range of disabilities and illnesses, 15 at last count, so she is in a great deal of pain, continuously, sometimes, whats known as chronic pain, and amongst our ramblings we started talking about the pyschology of being ill, how it required adjustments and the like, and the question was raised, how would people who suffer from chronic and painful illnesses cope if one day they woke up and the were well again, totally.

I have a feeling that would freak a great many people out. not because they enjoy being ill, but because they have over the years adjusted to the mental stresses and have come to some sort of terms with them, and to wake up completely well one morning would require a great deal of adjustment.

We came to the conclusion, that instead of waking up one morning, totally well, it would be better if the illnesses dissapeared slowly, this allowing people to adjust to the fact of being well again.

I felt the same thing would have to be done with people who were Quads or Paras, that if suddenly the Drs announced that they could, with a small device and a 6 hour operation return full movement and sensation to all Paras and Quads, it would be amazing, but something that would require counselling beforehand and afterwards, to allow for people to readjust to living a normal life.

There is a certain validity to this opinion, having read several books by people who were blind, and then got their sight back, how difficult it was for them to cope with the changes, not only emotionally but physically.
