HELP!!!!!!!!

Right, I need some serious help here, or perhaps someone to push me into
the right place.

My laptop an IBM thinkpad p4 3ghz yadda yadaa, running win xphome developed
a problem, it became unstable, so I decided that I would reinstall it, i
used the custom install program that comes on the laptop, because you have
to, and when i installed none of my zip files or rar files or even exe's
would unzip rar or exe, it kept on saying that the files were corrupt,which
is not true, as i tested the files on three other computers.

So i wiped the HD (barring the 5mb that IBM hide all their help files and
save programs on, becaise you cant delete this bit, it just doesnt
recognise it as a partition) and reinstalled from scratch..


same bloody problem.

does anyone have any ideas..
oh and the HD is fine, there are no virii, no faults nothing
