Just got off the phone with IBM... they've thought of a couple of other things I have to try before they'll accept it's a hardware problem.

Hmmm....I had a similar problem with an IBM work laptop once. I solved it by going to:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/us/all_download_drivers.html

Update all known drivers/patches for your model and then reboot.

Also - update any Microsoft Windows drivers and check that you haven't ticked a box in the Windows Download box if you have a MS Firewall activated. If you have another firewall activated (ie Symantec) you may need to reset your configurations so that it accepts downloads.

If none of this works, get a blowtorch and fire up the laptop! Send it back to IBM in a hessian bag.

Of course it CAN'T be a hardware problem... IBM's hardware is FLAWLESS... it's PURE GOLD!

Next time you talk to them, ask them about the DeskStar 75GXP. LOL!
