When I was around 13 or so, I came home from school one day to find that my Mum had given away to my old primary schools kindy, all of my dolls, my cat pyjama bag and my remaining teddys, I was furious, especially since Mum had given away my two favourite dolls of all time, my walker doll and Thumbelina, i'd had both of them for years and years and kept them in really good condition.

Mum said that I couldn't ask for them back, so I was resigned to never seeing them again, however when I disovered eBay, one of the first places I went searching was the doll section, but I never had any luck, I didn't know until I went searching that the doll I had was a Canada Regal Star doll, who were apparantly one of the best modern (for the time) doll makers in the world, and as such Regal/Regal Star dolls don't turn up that often and when they do they usually command a v.good price..

However today is my lucky day, for MY OLD DOLLl now all I have to do is find a Thumbelina doll from around 1970 ish, and a yellow cat pyjama bag, and i'll be set.

Note to self: I will never, never, NEVER give away something that belongs to my child without asking first. I've had my things given away, too. It is not fun.

*nods.* It seems to me that it's a matter of perspective -- my parents gave away things that belonged to me because they didn't really feel that I had ownership of anything. Even things that were given to me or bought by me weren't my property, because I was close to being property myself. I've seen even the most loving parents fall into that -- their kids are little extensions of them, not really separate people at all in their minds.

I know what you mean, i've tried not to fall into that trap, and I would never presume to give away anything that belonged to my kids...

It's a bag that you put your pyjamas away in of the mornng and it sits on your bed, or pillow, and mine was a yellow cat with pink nose and black stiff whiskers.
