Aaaaaargggh, bloody hell, the property manager who looks after this place REALLY takes the cake, on friday the self closer on the front security door fell, looking closely I realised that the reason it fell off was that the hinges of the door had given way and were coming out of the fittings.

So I sent him an email, telling him about it and asking him to send someone around to either repair or replace the security door, this morning I got a phone call from the door people asking me if I would be at home today as they were sending someone around to measure up for a new door.

Yippee, I went, wow, quick work, so at 9.30 this morning the guy from the Door place arrives, and informs me that they have a work order to replace my locking, SECURITY door with a bog standard NON locking NON security fly screen door.

Over my dead body, my insurance premiums are high enough already, without him taking away one of the things that gives me a little bit of a discount, so I told the guy that I wanted a either a NEW security door, or the old one fixed, so he looked at the door, said that yes, he could fix it, all it needed was new hinges fitted and moved, not a big problem, and some new screening fitted.

So he rang the property manager, and the sod said NO, that all I was going to get was a new fly screen door, I was just about to spit chips, when the guy from the door place told him that to repair the old door would cost less than a new fly screen door, so guess what, I'm getting the old door repaired.

What really makes it worse is that the Property manager has a column in the local real estate guide each week, and about 3 weeks ago, his column was all about how Landlords with Long Term Tenants, should show their appreciation to their LTTs by making minor repairs to the houses, and not quibbling over investing in a few major upgrades for LTTs who have proved their reliability, I've been here OVER 9 years, I qualify as a LTT, I have NEVER once missed a rental payment, nor have I ever caused any problems, but it seems that he doesn't put into practice what he preaches.

For if he did, I would have a NEW security door, and there wouldnt have been that fuss about the windows, and my BATHROOM would be done by now, I know Mike my landlord, sure he was slack about getting things done, but only because he forgot, once I reminded him enough, things got done, now it seems that only things that cost as little as possible get done, and as ungraciously as possible.

I was doing some quick calculations, by my reckoning I have been living here 474 weeks, give or take a few weeks, at $140 a week that works out to $66,360 in rent I have paid to my landlord, in those 474 weeks, the Landlord has spent about $4000 on maintence, thats $440 a year or thereabouts on this place.. No wonder it's falling down around my ears.

The house is only valued at $60,000, or it was at the last valuation, probably even less now, so I've basically paid for this house with my rent money, a little appreciation would go a long long way with me.

Remember the post about Rose's house? Her landlord is like that. She has been complaining for so long about the broken shower and toilet and he's done squat. Makes ya real crabby, doesn't it?
