I am no longer using ICQ, after it insisted that I *must* download the new version, and the new version looks horrible, and reminds me of one of the other IM's i detest using, AIM or Messenger, so I uninstalled it, if you want me, I'm on yahoo only, as well as IRC..

Have you tried GAIM http://gaim.sf.net or trillian http://trillain.cc

Different interface but allows access to all the services.

Indeed! And I keep feeling I'm the only one who uses it.

Go for Trillian. http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

It lets you run all the IMs from one client. Every so often ICQ, Yahoo, AIM or MSN block it off, but the hackers at Cerulean Studios have a patch ready in a few days.

"Hackers". XD!
Only AIM tries to block it. Perhaps Yahoo.

Hackers in the true sense. They don't crack security systems, they hack and create code.

I know AIM has tried to block Trillian a few times, and I think MSN tried once but gave up. I have a feeling ICQ tried it recently, but I could connect again when I upgraded to Trillian 3.1.

Yeah, I realized that afterwards. (Open mouth, insert foot x_x)

I don't think MS tried it... They even recognize Trillian as one of the messengers that connects to their network. (I remember something about changes, or an outdate, and they notified the devs of Trillian about it.)

Nah, ICQ doesn't do it. At least, not as far as I know: I don't get trouble connecting it, never need any patching. What they -will- do, though, is disconnect you if you send too many messages at once (rare that you'll hit that limit, I'd say, but it happens).
