family matters
Aug. 17th, 2005 01:30 pmHad a phone call today, from my Aunty Lesley, wishing me a happy birthday, so she's two days early, but at least she remembers what month I was born in. Getting calls from Lesley is always a double edged sword though, of all of my Aunts she is the one who sounds the most like my Mum, if someone else answers the phone and I'm told its Lesely, for me, I have time to prepare for that little immediate 'shock' I get when she says 'hello love'. But if I answer the phone and she goes 'hello love' without warning, I usually almost have to bite my lip to stop from crying.
So I get a whole load of family gossip, my oldest Aunt, Dawn is not well, finds it hard to get around now, has momemts when her mind and memory wander, and thats when I really realise that all the people I love are getting old, Dawn is 72 now, in my minds eye she's always around 40, and thats how I think of her. Lesley just turned 62, and I realise that my Mum would have been 70 next year.
