I agree. Some of us weren't born with brains that are really good at keeping everything balanced, so need to turn to meds more regularly than other people with healthier brains, or so my opinion is.

Or, as in my case currently, some of us have evolved pretty good coping mechanisms despite said brainy-problems and don't regularly need meds until something crazy like pregnancy screws up our hormones and sends things out of whack. Better that I be on something and be a good mother than not be on them and be in tears and falling apart.

Either way, anti-depressants are okay, although I also think that if it's financially feasible other help (ie, talk therapy) should be sought in conjunction with the meds to maximize their effectiveness.

Things like a change in diet, sleeping habits, and exercise habits as well, can also really help with certain kinds of mood and chemical difficulties.

All sorts of whacky human activities can throw things a bit off kilter, and we go to a physical doctor so easily for bodily things, why not the psych? It's just another version of help that should be as normal to seek out as a GP.

You didn't have the option of "No, but I sometimes envy my mum and her little blue prozac pills.."

anti-depressants are very useful things, especially in the short-term to get over a major situation..
