boodieIn 1985 there was a little shindig that Bob Geldof threw together called LIVEAID, you may have heard of it, Bob called up all his friends and said 'hey lets put on a concert to raise money for those starving people in Africa, now Bob, Bob is a persuasive man, and really you don't want an angry irishman ringing you up and swearing at you over the phone, using language your dear old Mum wouldn't approve of, so all of Bobs friends said 'sure mate, just stop swearing at us' and LIVEAID was born.
Now LIVEAID had some of the most famous and biggest selling artists of all time wanting to get on stage and do their bit, in the UK they had all their top acts, chart toppers, downright rock royalty, they also had Queen, Queen whom the critics had written off as irrelevant and outdated, Queen, who most people said had passed their use by date.
However what people had forgotten or chose to forget was that Queen had Freddie Mercury, Freddie, the consumate showman, a man who OWNED the stage, who could drag you in and make you care and sing along and give you a SHOW.
Queen took to the stage and for the next twenty minutes they showed why they and why Freddie Mercury was THE best front man that ever walked a stage.
Queen put all those other big name acts to shame and reminded people just why they were and are so fucking brilliant.
Freddie had the crowd in the palm of his hand, this is why there will never be another showman like Freddie Mercury.
I give you, Queen, ruling the world from LIVEAID in 1985.
It's coming up to almost seventeen years since Freddie left us and the musical world is a much sadder place.
