Thanks for letting me know. Sadly many of my favourite authors have moved on (the problem with having been reading voraciously for 45 years). I loved the Belgariad and Mallorean, discovered the Belgariad about the time the 5th book was published, then got each successive volume of the Mallorean when they were published, and started at book 1 again each time, then reread the whole 10 several times as well since. I think the only book of theirs that I didn't really like was The Elder Gods. Thanks for the reminder of a lot of good reading. Simon
Same here I have lost count at how many times I have read The Belgariad and The Malloreon as well as Belgarath The Sorcerer and the book about Polgara.
Dang, that is a shame, I grew up with his books. Sure, his later works were, Not so great, but he did have a certain panache when it come to writing interesting characters.
<3 Belgariad/Mallorean <3 Elenium/Whatever the other series was
I tried reading the Belgariad once and only got about halfway through, I couldn't really get into it. But I have several friends who loved his books, no small feat as they were not what you'd call fantasy fans and don't read much, so he must have been doing something right. I've been meaning to check out something of his other than the book I tried at first and see what all the fuss is about.
Shame when any creative mind goes, even if they're not to your personal taste.
As I said I know he wasn't to everyones liking, kind of like me and Robert Jordan and The Wheel Of Time, I gave up on that and can't figure out why all the fuss 8-)
