Aubkabob was a nickname that a good friend of mine gave me about ten years ago. People are always giving me nicknames that they derive from Aubrey: Aubasaurus, Aubarino, The Aubinator... etc. One morning, I came out and saw "Hi, Aubkabob" written on the dust on the rear window of my car.
I loved it so much, I've been using it as a handle ever since.
Sadly, though, when I started lj, I didn't think I was going to stick to it - during that time, my brother had been sending me a zillion sites, begging me to take part... and then abandoning them shortly after I did. I was sort of sick of using Aubkabob, so tossed in aubreystar. I created aubkabob either right before rename tokens came out, or right before I knew they existed.
I was looking for a new "role play" place, and someone pointed me at Furcadia. I needed a username, and had no idea. One of my friends at TAFE had been calling me Mr Wizard, because I'm just that good ;) I was way over-classed for the class I was in, bu I needed the paper. ANYWAY.
I needed a unique name, and Wizard not being unique, I, for some reason, decided to replace the d with th. It's proven unique almost everywhere (only other people in the world using it is an indian e-commerce company that don't sell anything), and I've gotten quite attached to it.
Now if only people would stop automatically fixing my "typo" or whatever, and calling me Wizard.
Ngarewyrd was a bit of a wordgame thing that happened, Sorta a cross between pulling scrabble tiles out of the bag, and 'adjusting' a local placename to be 'different' enough to be noticable
twasn't til later that I found out that "ngare" meant laughter in the language of Kiribati, I knew that 'wyrd' meant fate in the old english/saxon type language
So yeah, Laughing at Fate... seems to fit rather well
Well, once upon a time there was a girl called Steph who was enamoured about me for being a scotsman, and then Haggis Bagpipes popped into my head and the name stuck. I don't talk to Steph any more, but I'm still called Haggis Bagpipes because I really like the sound of it and it vaguely suggests a funny image.
Well, for my Lady Tmara name it's really simple - I was at the time using The Lady as my nickname on Discworld sites ( as I created the site, I could be a goddess :P ) and Tmara is my name, so ... Lady Tmara.
As for Marrra ... I wanted a single name nick I could use for more personal/furry stuff when I was getting into that. Mara is close to my own name, but I was a kitty, so I wanted a feel of purr in it - so I added another R. But Marra was taken on the site I registered (wherever that was, can't remember now) so I made it with 3 Rs instead :P It's Mara with purrr ^_^.
Slavkei was the name of a Seanchan rogue given to me on a Wheel of Time themed MUD several years back... the character's long deleted, but since the name was unique I held on to it.
Cobalt was used more often than I had hoped all over the web. The name Ellobahn popped into my head as I was thinking up a name for a character in a story a number of years ago. Seeing as Ellobahn is more original, I've been using that =)
