So disappointed in myself right now, failed yesterdays exam so badly: half the questions were covered in the text books I couldn't afford to buy. I did what I could with what little I knew, but it won't be enough to pass this subject. Looks very much like I'll have to repeat a whole semester.

So very disappointed in myself.

I'm so very sorry, teddles :-( what an awful thing to have happen.

if you do have to repeat, let us know the names of your textbooks. We'll see if we can locate them for you by some means - I'm still a member of the book co-op at Monash, and sometimes it's possible to find torrents of textbooks if you look hard enough.

I hate that textbooks are so expensive - I have one I had to buy for my course and never even opened it. I don't blame you for opting not to buy one - just a shame that your advisor didn't warn you about the exam content.

What about used books? Borrowing from the library? Speaking to the instructor and seeing if they might have an extra copy that you can use, because of your financial situation?

I can get one paid for text book from Monash per semester, to a limit of $65 which cuts out about %90 of the choice. The library down here has an agreement with Monash, but you can only borrow the books for 2 days at time, once every four weeks, which is not nearly enough, that is if THEY have the books, which they didn't this time.

I joined a used text book selling site, but most of the students on there have an over inflated idea of what their 2nd hand books are worth. I know they paid a lot for them, but selling them 2nd hand for only $10 less than what you can get them new is not conducive to people on tight budgets buying them.

Oh and I wont even get into what some of them wanted to charge for postage, worse than eBay.

Thank you love, I'm going to try and track down torrents for next semesters books, however it seems that the more unusual ones just never make it to an e-book. Which is understandable I guess.

The text books I did manage to buy came from Amazon in the states, because they were almost half the price of what Monash wanted for them here, the markup on textbooks in Aus is horrendous.

the book co-op sells secondhand books, usually at reasonable prices - or they were when I was working at Monash.

Still, let us know what you need, and I'll check around.
