I played the part of a resident for our "manual handling training" one year, which involved being hoisted in the sling and transferred from bed to toilet chair, and also being lifted in the so-called "standing machine", which is suitable if the patient/resident is able to bear some of their own weight.
even fully dressed, it is a real matter of trusting the person operating the machine. naked or partially so, it would be very hard to submit to, even when necessary.
I think all nurses and PCAs should be made to be the victim :-) of a lifting machine lift. They would think a lot more about how they handle and reassure the person they are assisting.
When I was in hospital 20 years ago with cellulitis of the leg (from an infected flea bite that spread into a bruise), I had to use the monkey bar over the bed to hoist myself up to use the bedpan, and managed to bed the IV needle in the back of my hand. OW. The doctor who came to reinsert it at 2 in the morning was very rough and did a crappy job, I ended up with the needle not properly in the vein and my hand filled up with fluid under the skin as a result.
That does indeed suck, but on the other hand, no one has dignity in a hospital. And you'll be out soon enough, for sure! Also, why is the title of your journal and why are the reply buttons in cyrillic?
