They shall not grow old

As we that are left grow old;

age shall not weary them

Nor the years condemn:

At the going down of the sun

And in the morning

We will remember them

Lest we forget

Apparantlty Australia lost more men per capita in WW1 than any of the other allies, around 60+% , followed by NZ with 58%

It really did decimate 2 whole generations.

Yeah, but seems to me too much of the focus is on remembering it as some sort of high and noble sacrifice by noble warrior ancestors who some how won us a great victory at great cost.

The media uses words like "noble young men and women", "fighting for things we now take for granted" , "who dies FOR US" and all that crap.

Seems we long sice have forgotten what its all about, the evil toll of Nationlism on the niave youth in times of war. Lest we forget THAT which we have...

there is nothing noble about war..

the lyrics to And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda show that.
