I really detest current affairs shows... and Today Tonight especially.


McDonalds over here currently is giving away NeoPets with their Happy Meals, and part of that is of course directions on how to get to NeoPets on the web, apparantly a mother walked in on her 9 yo son playing one of the mini games on NeoPets, the poker one, and she went screaming off to Toady Tonight about how Maccas was encouraging her son to become addicted to gambling, so Maccas put pressure on NeoPets to ban ALL australian user from accessing any of the gambling mini games... thats ALL users, including adults..

I am so pissed cos I cant get to my fave neopet mini games.

heres the report from slashdot... I wondered why I couldnt access any of the good mini games, now i know why

welcome to corporate fascisim. Not that I know what neopet is, but it the story sounds very typical. It seems to me that in australia its not the will of the majority that matters, but a vocal and annoying minority.

Not Australia, but human society in general. Culture and influence are almost always created by a vocal minority. Just look at Nazi Germany.

And so this is what we get when people refuse to learn from histories past mistakes. The scary thing about Nazi germany paralell is that we can see a similar sort of thing going on here with Family First (ugh!) They ran a complete scare campaign and had no real policies to speak of and yet got in because they appealed to the masses.
