Terry Pratchett, author of the bestselling Discworld novels, has been diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer's. He has donated half a million pounds (approx $1 million) to Alzheimer's research and appeared in the media highlighting the low levels of research funding Alzheimer's receives. Millions of loyal readers from around the world have responded and are helping to match Terry's donation.

This was the brilliant brainchild of Pat Cadogan, well known and respected editor/author, I saw the interview with Pterry on SBS, seeing this amazing man stumbling over his words and losing his train of thought was absolutely shocking, this is the most awful of ironies.

Someone on the Wheel of Time RPG boards I'm on made the comment, "At last! We know who's gonna finish the Wheel of Time series while keeping it in the same style and quality as Robert Jordan's work - Terry Pratchett, when he reaches the final stages of Alzheimer's!"

I read a quote from Pratchett recently, about how every day he has to teach himself how to type again because he loses the ability overnight. It seems to be taking it's toll very quickly? I mean I don't really know how Alzheimers progresses, but it wasn't that long ago he was just diagnosed. It's all fucking tragic :(

*sigh*

Sadly yes, this is a particularly nasty form of alzheimers, a very rare one that moves very quickly, it's so so sad.
