Apr. 14th, 2008 12:15 pmOverheard on the morning news on telly
'Actress Cate Blanchett has given birth to a (pause pause pause) baby'
REALLY?? you mean she didn't give birth to a tellytubbie, or perhaps a politician, or maybe even a kitten
And here was me thinking that Cate would be going outside the square, outside the outmoded old box of giving birth to BABIES and picking something useful, like a solar array.
I am bitterly disappointed in Cate, really I am, I mean giving birth to a BABY... in this day and age.

One morning I was listening to the local news out of Jacksonville, Florida (near where I live) and the news hen amused me greatly. She was talking about a young mother whose baby had been snatched -- not a funny subject, to be sure, but the delivery had me in stitches when she said, "The 17-year-old baby's mother . . ." and I thought, well, that's handy but also painful to have a baby who's 17. Gets a lot out of the way!
