Watching the Miss World on the teev, I came across the young lady from the charmingly named Turks and Caicos Islands, now this was a place I had never heard of before, from looking at her, I took a stab that perhaps she was from the carribean area, and I was right, Turks and Caicos is in that area, it's apparantly a part of the Commonwealth, and even more strangely there is a rather vocal movement on the Island to become part of Canada... And Canada doesn't seem to mind that idea either..

Who said watching beauty pageants was a waste of time, the opportunities for learning things are endless 8-)

By the way, after the collapse of the short-lived Federation of the West Indies in the early 1960's, the British government, apparently not so keen on taking back the dozen or so islands they wanted to see independant as soon as possible, suggested that they could become the 10th Canadian province. If it had worked, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Montserrat, Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Grenada, Barbados and the Grenadines would now be Canada's numerous overseas territories. And France would have a common border with Canada.
