Over the years there have been quite a few 'tv phenomenoms' that I just haven't been able to get just why people rave over them and watch them religiously, and even more so, get very rabid about them to the point of fan fic and slash.

My extensive list of tv shows that I just don't 'get' goes like this.

1: Seinfeld This man is just not funny, and his bunch of whiny self obsessed friends were as about as funny as nails on a blackboard, that whole whiny sense of self entitlement just turned me off, totally

2: The Simpsons sure it was funny for the first two seasons, but after that, god help us, how much of this unfunny boorishness can people stand, year after year after year

3: Buffy The Vampire Slayer Never understood why people loved this show so much, if ever a show screamed volumes about the writers/producers ego, this show was it, it was trite, took itself far to seriously and wandered off into the realms of idiocy far too often

4: Everybody Loves Raymond NO THEY DON'T.. I wanted to slap him upside the head, repeatedly, enough said

5: Firefly Good god, you'd have thought that this was the second coming of all that was holy and good.. umm NO, and the fans, god save me from the fans who still can't let go of this mediocre show.

6: The Office (UK version) No, just no, Ricky Gervais minimal range of facial tics that pass for acting made this show unwatchable, Gervais plays himself no matter what role it is, and that makes whatever he is in, unwatchable

7: All US remakes of brilliant UK comedy shows (the Office excluded) including, Coupling, Men Behaving Badly, Man About The House, All in the Family, George and Mildred etc etc etc.

8: The X Files Didn't we suffer enough with this show lasting about three seasons longer than it should have, only now to be inflicted with a new Movie about it, someone must have needed the money thats all I can say

9: Prisonbreak How many frickin times can one man go to prison and escape, three it seems with more on the bloody cards, this is a case where the death penalty is needed

10: Heroes All I can say is... WHAT HAPPENED? one of the best fresh new ideas to come out of the bloated carcass that is hollywood since Lost, and you fucked it up, I am so over Heroes now, it's time has been and gone, Lost is heading that way too.

11: Star Trek Come on people, it was at best a mediocre tv show when it came out, do we really need another movie about it. (though ST:IV The Voyage Home, is one of my fave movies of all time.. I mean it has WHALES!!)

Oh, HELLS YES! I totally agree with you about most of those. I always used to say about Seinfeld was that if any of my friends were THAT self-obsessed, I'd have slapped them silly.

AND? Since the best way to have NOT watch anything that everyone squees about... is to have rabid idiots excessively squee about it. So I won't even watch shows like Prison Break (beyond the first couple of episodes to see what all the fuss was about). X-Files was awesome for the first couple of seasons... then it decended into idiocy the way most new shows that sound promising do. Same as Lost and Heroes have been doing in the later episodes. I liked Star Trek (series), though. But because it was funny and corny. When the later series and movies all came out and started to take themselves too seriously, not so much :(

Oh yes, thats what put me off Firefly, there was a time when I couldn't read my flist without there being 50 bajillion posts about how awesome it was. Instant turn off.

Letterman is a very acquired taste, i could watch him for a few minutes at a time and that was enough.

11. Well, the original series is a bit mediocre, but the later ones are not too bad. And Star Trek: First Contact is a damn good film in its own right.

1: Seinfeld - I saw the "Soup Nazi" episode and that was it. I still don't get it.
2: The Simpsons - No. They refuse to evolve.
3: Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Never seen it at all.
4: Everybody Loves Raymond - Never seen it at all.
5: Firefly - Never seen it at all.
6: The Office (UK version) - Never seen it at all. Or the US one.
7: Never seen any "Americanized" Sitcoms. Thank God.
8: The X Files -Seen one or two episodes. They weren't bad, but I never really enjoyed them.
9: Prisonbreak - Never seen it at all.
10: Heroes - Never seen it at all.
11: Star Trek - Again, one or two episodes. But I agree on the fourth movie being great. I was told to watch it by a Trekkie, and oddly didn't regret it.

Suffice it to say that I don't watch television.

1. Seinfeld. I liked the small number of episodes I've seen.
2. The Simpsons. I agree strongly. My flatmate watches it all the time and I've grown to loathe it. Boorishness is a good word.
3. Buffy. I loved this show but I got the impression when I was watching it that nobody could make a TV show better than Joss Whedon so I guess there was a certain pretentiousness about it.
4. Everybody Loves Raymond - Never seen it at all.
5. Firefly. Loved it.
6. The Office. Loathe it.
7. Euch.
8. X-Files. Yeah, went on too long.
9. Prisonbreak. Never seen this show.
10. Heroes. The first episode I saw was the second last episode, and the second episode I saw was the last episode, and when I saw the last episode I thought: you dicks, you didn't kill Sylar, Joss Whedon would have killed Sylar.
11. Star Trek - was good but I was never hardcore into it.
