Now as a few of you know, I live in a house that has a great deal of things wrong with it, huge cracks in the ceilings, windows that you cant open, because they have either been painted shut, or if you did open them, you wouldnt be able to get them shut again because the catch is broken, a bathroom that grows not only mould but very large fungi,n from the cracks in the tiles, the foundations have shifted and the backstair handrail is unsafe to use.

There are 5 windows in the house with cracked panes, including one in the eldest hatchies bedroom, her window is one of those that doesnt shut properly, we've had a lot of wind this past few days and her window banged in the wind and VOILA the glass shattered and broke.

I, being the good tennant I am, sent the Property Manager an email, telling him that the glass had broken and could he please send out a glazier.. his reply VERBATIM as follows

So in the meantime, Chandra is sleeping in a bedroom with a window covered with newspaper, and we can't leave the house unattended in case someone sees the window withour the glass and gets in, and I wouldnt be covered by insurance, because *I*would have contributed to the breakin by not having any glass.

You don't have some sort of housing authority in your area that can help you out in this case? I would think conditions like that would be illegal there. They are, here.

if he doesnt pull his finger out I'm going to the tennants union, but I dont want to get too shirty, since I dont have a lease he can get me out of the house with only 4 weeks notice, and I cant afford to move, nor do I want to, it may be a hovel, but it's my hovel
