apparantly the median house price in Hobart now is $196,000 thats a 45% rise from this time last year.

and now takes almost 22% of the average income to service a mortgage.

BLOODY HELL..


well there goes the dream of buying a house in the next 6 months or so 8-(

According to a report on some silly current affair program last night ... we are entering a buyer's market. mind you, they only looked at sydney, melbourne and brissie but apparently prices are going to fall or at least remain steady ... so don't rush it ... some dreams are worth a little extra wait.

If Hobart requires 22% to "service a mortgage" contemplate that the national figure is 40%.

It doesn't help but there's an old adage concerning a man who believed he was in dire straits because he had no shoes until he spoke to a man who had no legs.

I know it totally sucks butt. Joel and I are at the stage where we want to enter the first home buyers market but it's just too damn expensive. Here in Canberra there's no houses under about 300K and they are the "low priced" hovels. I think our plan of attack will be to buy a 1 or 2 bedroom unit/townhouse, pay it off, install tenants and get something bigger. We'll work our way up to a proper house. Will take longer and probably be far more frustrating but we can't afford it otherwise. Currently paying $270/week just for rent. :/
